27. Last Day in Florence

I am very sad to leave this city
I’ve gotten along quite well and to leave is a pity.
I went to the station to buy my ticket to Milan
People were waiting, and from the weather stranded.
If the weather doesn’t clear
My train will be canceled I fear.
Barbara, my friend from Bologna cooking class,
Came back into town  and we got together at last.
We met at the town square
Showed me sights I wasn’t aware.
We went to the terrace of the department store
To see the roof top views from Florence once more.
Then to her favorite restaurant to eat,
Local Florentine specialty treats.
We started off with a liver pate,
Proscuitto, salami & another meat.
Our main course was a type of black cabbage stew
Consisted of bread, beans and vegetables all thru.
The owner and waiters know her by name
A favorite restaurant of hers, she claims.
Next for a cappucinno at a wonderful bar
Then a brisk walk that wasn’t too far.
Into Santa Maria Novella, a profumo farmaceutica
Founded by Dominican friars in 1221, Angiolo Marchisssa.
The sites and smells of the perfumes, ointments and balms
Were rich with oils that melted in your palms.
The formulas developed from the friar's gardens  400 years ago,
Are still used today from Russia to China as far as I know.
I inquired about the price for the facial treatments
Each bottle 100 euros, too much money that cannot be spent.
I said my goodbyes to Barbara from the store
And, hoping I will see her once more.
