10. Day In Bologna, Emilia Romagna

At first, I thought Bologna I would not like,
Over a ½ a million people can give you a fright.
Hotel Guercino is reasonably priced,
And is centrally located, & staff exceptionally nice.
I just first take a step out the door,
Take a deep breath and walk some more.
The people scurry about real fast,
Completely oblivious of their past.
I strolled the ancient streets and came upon,
The Bologna Archaeological Museum.
The building dates from the 15th century,
And was inaugurated in 1881 as the university.
In the basement contains the most important Egyptian collection,
From the tomb of General Horemheb of Tutankhamon.
A vast amount of statues and sarcophagi,
Jewelry, vases and ushabti.
The ground floor contains plaster cast galleries
Of the most famous sculptures from past centuries.
The first floor is enriched with Etruscan beauty, too many to list,
Earthenware, a straw helmet decorated with bronze disks.
The most amazing relic collection I have ever seen,
Etruscan, Greek coins, jewelry of ancient Roman.
Bologna is famous for the Piazza Cavour in the city center,
Flagged stone medieval streets with porticoed arches to walk under.
Two funny sites I had to record,
The Golden Arches and the 99 cent store!
The colossal towers are two remaining from the 12th century,
Torri delgi Garisenda and Asinelli.
Santo Stefano, seven churches under one roof,
Ordained  saints, sarcophagi and wolf.
I visited the libraria of the town, unlike in the US you will see,
Where medical students of past would dissect the bodies.
The halls are adorned with frescos and coats of arms,
The ceilings are painted with scenes quite alarming.
Walking back to the hotel, tracing my steps with care,
I came across a studio, and asked, “Please cut my hair.”
I showed a photo to Salvatorri,
And he cut my hair exactamente!
Off with old long dragging locks,
Now, I can say, I look like a fox!!
(Just kidding of course, had to have a rhyme)
