15. Venice – Day 2

I boarded the boat from Lido,
Had no idea of where to go.
Decided to check out every port.
Started at Giaardini and the arsenal  fort.

Went to the naval museum of history,
How these little people lifted the weapons, is still a mystery.
Saw many nonno’s walking their bambini and playing in the park
And, some young Italian men on their break.
Walked to San Marco Basilica to visit the Doge’s Palace & prison,
Upstairs were guilded rooms of marple, gold and paintings from heaven,
But after you cross the Bridge of Sighs, you are definitely in hell,
Of each tiny cramped, cold barren cell.
I met four American women from the Northwest coast,
Traveled the streets together to find the Archives Farari post.
Sherree, Sheila, Sue and Sherri
We stopped for a snack and found out how they vary.
Left at the Rialto to find my way back to sea,
Wandered in circles, lost, tired, so stopped to eat.
Talked to a couple from London fog,
Enters another couple on a birthday trip from Prague.
We chatted and they all told me of their lives,
And gave me more suggestions of places five.
Got back to Lido and in the lobby and what do you suppose
Were five more women from St. Paul Minnesota.
We talked and walked and went for gelato
And found out these go workers each year travel and go.
They told me places to see,
And one more day to say thank you God, from me!
