“My five Days as Vikki’s Passenger
roadie”
By cousin Cathe Urban
Packed up the remnant of you life,
This ship is about to sail.
But by all mean, in the midst of it all
Lets’ have a garage sale!
As she’s loading up the trailer,
The neighbors start to scuffle,
Vikki yells at them to “knock it off!”
And away they quickly shuffle.
Pack up the car, put the cruise on
Cathe…let’s get the hell outta Tucson.
Two cousins and a U-Hall van,
Drive by day…in the evenings, we’ll land
So Vikki…where we gonna go?
Cut to six hour later,,,hey, we’re in Winslow.
We happened upon a great place “La Posada”
If you’ve never been, perhaps you outta
Great history and a quirky museum,
We felt the ghosts, but didn’t see ‘em.
Let’s head out the second day
Where we goin?….Santa Fe!
Although the cost savings didn’t amount to a beef,
This was your first senior discount at Georgia O’Keefe.
We set out to find some food,
Jumped into a stranger’s car,
End up eating Italian
In a hoppin’ piano
bar.
She knows ALL the words
Though it’s been many moons,
Cut to my cousin
On stage singin’ show tunes!
We say to the waiter, “Stop taking our bread,
For goodness sake!”
Oh , a phone call comin’ in
“John, I’ll call you on Vikki’s break!”
She thanked the audience
As though she’s won an award
The crowds slowly yawns
“Frankly they’re bored.”
We set out on foot
And now we’re half sauced
We laughed ourselves to tears
And of course we got lost.
We try to read a map at the stop lite,
Car honked, “Vikki where you going?”
As they reply, “Oh, the Inn..go straight, It’s on the right!”
Up North we head on day three.
Off to Denver to see her dear friend Lee.
We grab a pizza and two bottles of wine
Then go to sleep
Thankful everything’s
fine!
Fill up the tank, $2.44 a gallon
Spend the next seven hours learning Italian.
The trip from Denver was the furthest by far
But we had to go to Omaha to pick up mom’s car.
Stopped for help, don’t know how to backup a trailer,
Girls in the beauty shop were rough as sailors!
Flat tire on the U-haul on the right rear-o
You made the guy blush by calling him you’re hero.
So today was the end of our travels together
Made good time, bumpy roads and great weather.
Being Vikki’s roadie
Was of course never dull
Microwaved burritos, coffee
Wasabi nuts and red
bull.
Knock on wood…
Nothing went “too” wrong.
We even remembered the Glenn Campbell song.
Happy Birthday cousin!
Bottoms up
Ohh…I almost forgot about the “Red solo cup.”
I know that you’ll flourish
Wherever you go.
Now I say to you
Ciao bello!
(hope I got that right…me assina)
I love you
Your cousin Cathe.
